• This study investigates whether cervical pulpotomy could be an alternative to conventional root canal treatment in irreversible pulpitis in mature permanent teeth.
• Cervical pulpotomy (complete pulpotomy) consists of removal of coronal pulp tissue and placement of the pulp with dressing on the canal orifices.
• A comprehensive literature search consisting of years 2000-2021 was performed.
• However, only four studies meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria.
Author concludes:
• Clinical success rate of pulpotomy was practically equal to root canal treatment.
• Radiographically, pulpotomy had a higher success rate.
• Pulpotomy is not inferior to the conventional root canal treatment in the management of acute irreversible pulpitis in mature permanent teeth in adults.
