With age, bones become brittle and osteoporosis is common, especially in aged women. Osteoporosis may cause changes in the alveolar bone, but no tooth attachment loss. Bone loss only occurs in the area surrounding the teeth, as a result of bacterial plaque or non-physiological masticatory stress.
