Pain in the floor of the mouth

When the pain in the floor of the mouth develops rapidly within hours and is accompanied by swelling, the most common cause is an infection. Salivary calculus blocking the submandibular gland also causes pain as the swelling develops. There may also be aphthae in the floor of the mouth.
